Specialist strategic capital-project advisory

Delivering confidence in complex capital projects.

Glengarra brings strategic insight and delivery expertise together, helping organisations make better decisions across complex capital projects, programmes and portfolios.

Strategy. Results. It's our nature.

Why Glengarra

Complex doesn’t have to mean complicated.

The information is often already there. The difficult part is understanding how it connects and what it means. Glengarra brings experienced, independent people close to the problem, to connect the evidence and make the path forward clear.

What We Do

Two connected parts of Glengarra.

Selected Work

Strategy tested in delivery.

Four examples of how Glengarra intervenes across the capital-project system: from shaping an investment case to recovering a project under pressure.

01 / Optimise Switzerland · Biotechnology · >CHF250m

Protecting ambition while transforming the investment

A >CHF250m biotechnology development centre was competing for capital across an international portfolio. At the end of early design, approximately CHF40m needed to be removed from the concept to secure investment approval without compromising its scientific or operational ambition.

Glengarra worked client-side through basic design, challenging the investment case across footprint, process engineering, technology strategy and procurement, and developed a hybrid owner-led delivery model.

  • Footprint and process engineering
  • Single-use vs stainless-steel, skid vs stick-build strategy
  • Procurement and framework agreements
  • Hybrid owner-led delivery model
Outcome

Approximately CHF40m of value engineering supported investment approval. Glengarra then helped establish the integrated delivery organisation and remained involved through execution, with the project delivered to the agreed budget and overall timeline.

02 / Integrate Belgium · Life Sciences · >€300m

Connecting the investment to the realities of the site

A >€300m life sciences facility was being developed inside an existing operational site, inserted between two live production buildings. It needed to integrate with existing production, utilities, wastewater treatment, access and wider site infrastructure.

Glengarra supported the owner through basic design to establish an integrated investment and execution basis, connecting cost, schedule, risk and phasing across the whole site.

  • Independent cost and schedule challenge
  • Quantitative schedule risk analysis
  • Procurement and subcontracting strategy
  • Site-wide phasing around live production
Outcome

A more robust, integrated basis for investment and execution, with improved visibility of cost, schedule, risk and interfaces. Glengarra was re-engaged during execution for further independent assurance.

03 / Recover Germany · Pharmaceutical Manufacturing · >€200m

Establishing the real position on a project under pressure

A >€200m pharmaceutical manufacturing project was around 60% through construction, with repeated schedule slippage and cost pressure, and an early schedule health check scoring only around 15% against standard good-practice checks.

Following an independent project review, Glengarra was retained to support recovery, rebuilding the schedule and cost basis around a single, credible, systems-based plan.

  • Cost-to-complete and schedule diagnostic
  • Quantitative cost and schedule risk
  • Reporting and change-management overhaul
  • Systems-based completion tracking
Outcome

A consistent, credible forecast replaced continuously shifting completion dates, with construction, mechanical completion, CQV and start-up synchronised around one systems-based plan.

04 / Align Scotland · Advanced Manufacturing · >€450m

Turning independent challenge into integrated delivery

A >€450m capital project faced significant concern over forecast cost growth in a major MEP package, with limited confidence in governance, roles and interfaces across the owner, engineering partners and contractors.

An independent peer review of cost, schedule, risk and governance expanded into owner-side project controls, moving the project from area-based to systems-based completion thinking.

  • Independent multidisciplinary peer review
  • Integrated baseline schedule and reporting
  • Monthly quantitative cost and schedule risk
  • Owner-side controls and systems-based completion
Outcome

Substantially greater visibility of status, risk and commercial exposure, with a common baseline that aligned the owner, engineering partners and contractors around shared priorities.

Markets

Complex capital environments.

Glengarra supports organisations investing in significant capital portfolios, programmes and projects where technical complexity, investment pressure and execution risk intersect.

Life Sciences & Healthcare Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare and regulated environments where product, process, compliance and delivery requirements converge.
Advanced Technology Data centres, electronics and technology infrastructure where capacity, speed and execution certainty drive investment decisions.
Advanced Manufacturing Complex manufacturing environments where automation, production technology and capital delivery must work as one system.
Chemicals & Process Industries Process-intensive capital environments shaped by safety, hazardous materials, operating constraints and complex interfaces.
Energy, Utilities & Power Critical infrastructure and transition programmes balancing resilience, technology, commercial viability and changing investment priorities.
Infrastructure Major infrastructure programmes where interfaces, governance, stakeholder complexity, cost and schedule certainty become critical.
Research & Education Research facilities, laboratories and institutional campuses where specialist infrastructure must support evolving scientific and operational needs.
Commercial & Mixed-Use Complex commercial developments where investment strategy, stakeholder requirements and delivery performance must remain aligned.

Experience shaped in demanding environments

Glengarra’s experience has been built in highly regulated GMP facilities, advanced manufacturing, complex process plants and challenging brownfield environments. The disciplines developed there - rigorous scope definition, integrated cost and schedule, risk, governance and delivery control - apply wherever significant capital is being deployed.

Capital decisions before project decisions

We understand that successful capital delivery begins before a project is defined. Product strategy, market demand, capacity, location, technology and investment timing determine where capital should be deployed. Project execution then determines whether that investment delivers its intended value.

Strategy. Results. It’s our nature.

We believe the best outcomes come from seeing the whole: strategy and delivery, together.
